Keep the handover clear.

How do I lend my first kit?
Open Gear kits, create a kit, then add each accessory and quantity. Add optional reference notes/photos. Choose Start handover, enter a borrower nickname and optional due date, and check only accessories actually issued. Review and confirm the handover. You may save a draft first.
Why is the camera loan still open?
Every issued unit must be returned or explicitly written off. In the fictional camera sample, body, lens, strap and charger are back, but two batteries remain. Return one battery and one remains outstanding. Return the second and the loan closes.
How do I correct a return or write-off?
Open the accessory’s condition screen and choose Correct this event. Add an explanation. The original event remains visible. A correction can reopen a closed loan. For an item found after a write-off, choose Record found units on the write-off; it transfers the quantity to returned without double counting. Correct dependent found events before reversing their original write-off.
Can I change the kit later?
Yes. Existing loans keep original labels, issued counts and reference photos. One physical kit can have only one open loan. Create separate kits for separately owned equipment.
How do I back up or move to another device?
Settings → Export backup saves a complete .gearbackup package through Files. Keep it intact. On the other device, choose Import backup and review Merge, Skip or Copy. Merge rejects conflicting IDs; Skip preserves existing records; Copy creates distinct kits and remaps their history. Repeated Merge/Skip imports do not duplicate returns. A damaged store offers last-good recovery or validated backup import.
Are reminders automatic?
No. On an open loan, choose Prepare reminder, edit the preview and open the system share sheet. Choose the recipient yourself. The app does not know whether a message was delivered. Due dates use a fixed schedule timezone; today is not overdue, and an unknown date never appears as overdue.
What do reports include?
Choose an original handover summary or condition/return report. Select accessory lines and whether to include borrower nickname, notes and photos. Preview before sharing or printing. Issued quantities come from the original snapshot; return balances have a report as-of date. Notes and photos do not establish legal responsibility.
Purchases, offline use and limits
One paid download includes all features. There is no Pro purchase or Restore Purchases button. Redownload through the Apple account used to buy the app; local records need a backup to transfer. Core records and reports work locally. Support links and some Files/Photos providers require a connection. Safety limits: 500 kits, 5,000 loans, 100 accessories per kit, 999 units per line, 2,000 events per loan, four photos per observation, 8 MB per photo and 48 MB total originals.
What if a save fails?
Your active form stays open and prior saved data remains intact. Free space on your device and retry. Do not uninstall before exporting a backup. If recovery is offered, review and recover the last good save or import a known backup.
